What happens when I click the security icons?

Clicking the the security icon ( secure link icon or secure link iconor Microsoft IE secure link icon depending on your browser) brings up a window with information about the security of the current site. In Netscape Communicator, the security information window lets you manage a password for security certificates and configure Communicator's warnings about encryption and security.

The information provided by the security button is a useful indication of the type of connection to the Web site your browser has. It does not remove the need for sound judgment about when to reveal sensitive information such as credit card numbers, passwords, personal data, etc.

For more information, see Netscape's Security FAQs and the Microsoft Internet Explorer security page.
